Rootstock is always important in fruit trees, but with Peach trees, the proper rootstock is critical. Beckman and Clemson University developed Guardian rootstock is the one rootstock that thrives best in our area. A couple of others do “alright,” but with peaches, a number of other common rootstocks do poorly in our soil… and some of them will outright die to nematodes, PRS (Peach Replant Syndrome), or something else.
If you’re buying peach trees on the wrong rootstock, there’s a good chance you’re just throwing your money (and time) away.
