Yates has suffered from drought scorch (irregular watering on our part) and has never exploded like some of the other varieties. However, regarded as highly disease resistant, it might just not like living in a pot. Regarded as a solid tree and fine apple by growers, we continue to recommend.

History:

Throughout the thousands of apple varieties, only a few crabapples have culinary/dessert use. Yates is one such crabapple. Don’t let the idea of an edible crabapple mislead you, these few crabapple varieties are exceptional and if the qualities line up with what you’re looking for, they are very much worth the effort in growing.

Originated in Fayette County, Georgia, USA, around 1844 and recognized as a regional favorite for well over a century.
